Thanks for visiting my website. My name is Gail Holland. I was born in Rochester, New York, but I spent most of my life in Southern California. I live in the Marigny District of New Orleans now. I have lived here for more than 7 years. It's a quaint little neighborhood just outside the French Quarter.

I am an animal lover, especially dogs. But I have lots of feral cats that my neighbors and I take care of. I started drawing and painting after I lost two beloved dogs right in a row. I painted my Eddie over and over. Then my friends wanted pictures of their animals and it grew from there. Now people all over the world have my animals in their homes. As you can see, I've been heavily influenced by the iconic art of the world, especially the Mexican style. I've always loved the bright colors and simplistic style. My art takes on some of those aspects of iconic art, but it's almost a folk art style.

My art is currently hanging in Le Jardin, a gallery at 612 Royal Street in New Orleans. I am also at the Artists' Market at 1228 Decatur in New Orleans. And also my wonderful vet's office has many of my paintings hanging on their walls at 1930 St. Claude in New Orleans. They also have my paintings and prints on the walls of the Pet Asylum at 510 Dumaine Street.

I will do commission work but as you can see, I'm not what you would call a portrait painter. Animals to me are sweet, silly, and their behavior to us is often bizarre. Well, so are my paintings.

Many of my favorite pieces are displayed below. If you would like to buy high quality prints of them, click on one of the paintings for details. Also feel free to visit my store at CafePress.com to purchase all sorts of fabulous items from magnets to t-shirts to chef aprons. Again, thanks for visiting my website!

Oh, and feel free to email me with any questions or comments. You can find me at hearsegirlgail@yahoo.com.

SPECIAL UPDATE

Gail is also a part of a group of neighbors calling themselves WAIF (Wandering Animals Insurance Fund). Their main focus is trapping, neutering, and returning feral cats. The city of New Orleans is overwhelmed with them since Katrina. Right now they are raffling off a personal pet portrait. For the small price of a dollar raffle ticket some lucky winner will have a portrait done of their own pet by Gail. Every penny of the money goes to helping our wonderful Marigny Vet Clinic take care of all the animals that other people cannot or will not take care of. The raffle tickets are for sale at Mary Jane's Emporium at 1229 Decatur in New Orleans. Or you can email Gail to find out how to purchase a ticket. When the first raffle brings in $500.00, a winner will be chosen and notified. Then a new raffle will begin. If the winner lives out of town, the painting will be shipped. Thank you to everyone that has helped on this.
